PMP PDU Requirements Online for PMP PDU Courses
All PMI certifications require renewal. For more information, please refer to the PMI PDU Guide. You must earn PDUs (Professional Development Units) each three years to renew your PMI certification. The PMI website has the following figure that shows the PDU requirements for each PMI certification. You must earn 60 PDUs each 3-year cycle to renew your PMP certification.
PMI has recently announced the PMI Talent Triangle. The PMI Talent Triangle shows the ideal skill set for project management in three categories: leadership, technical and strategic. The PMI Talent Triangle is shown in the following figure.
To renew your PMP certification, you need to earn PMP PDU. You should be aware of the PMI’s PMP PDU requirements. PDU can be earned from two sources. These are education and giving. There are many resources available for education and giving back. These are covered in detail in the PMP PDU requirements article. You can also read our PMP PDU post for more information on how to earn PDUs.
You must earn at least 35 PDUs in education category and at most 25 PDUs in the giving back category to renew your PMP. You can earn all 60 PDUs in education categories as long as there are 8 PDUs for each PMI Talent Triangle category.
These categories have additional rules. Each PMI talent triangle category requires that you earn at least 8 PDUs. These include leadership, strategic, and technical. After you have earned at least 8 PDUs in each PMI talent triangle, you can then earn the remaining 11 education PDUs through any of the PMI Talent Triangles.
For the Giving back category, you are allowed to submit maximum 8 PDUs. There is no prerequisite for any other categories of giving back. You might not be able to submit giving back PDUs or complete the 60 PMP PDU requirements from education category.
